It has been a little over 3 months since I joined indiblogger. As the name suggests, it is a community of indian bloggers. Being part of such an enthusiast blogging community, it was suggested to meet up and socialize to know fellow bloggers. Such events are no strange to indiblogger, these meets have been conducted many a times in the past in many cities across India. The main agenda for today’s meet was to discuss about Google page rank and how this will help bloggers. For good, the venue was shifted from Coffee Day to Potluck. Mr. Birla was generous enough to sponsor the premises of his restaurant PotLuck as well as ‘pakodas’ for free! Oh yeah, tea/coffee were offered many a times through out the session!
There were hardly half a dozen of folks by scheduled time. Just like the great politicians in our country, many bloggers too live by Indian Stretched Time (IST). Blame it on ‘Google‘ search results as many of the attendees were misguided to head towards another restaurant by name Potluck near IIMB on Bannerghatta road. It took a while for them to realize the actual venue, which is located near BTM Layout and thus the session started almost 30 minutes late. Leaving it all aside, it is appreciable that many made it for this event. Though a couple of them came even after 5pm, we were still going through ‘few minutes of fame’ introduction round to know each of blogger. I would say there were about 25 people in all.
It was interesting to know bloggers from being techies working at MNC’s to entrepreneurs, unemployed consultants (seriously, couldn’t understand what it actually means), students and social media gurus! The real surprise was that, some of them even maintain & manage about 4 to 5 blogs. There were bloggers with a mix bag of varied interests like poetry, tech stuff, travel, day to day random ramblings, movie reviews and many more. All through the introduction session, funny moments were all around with PJs and fellow bloggers getting busy in pulling the legs of each other without missing any opportunity. The discussion on ‘Google Page Rank‘ started with a bit of history and its current state of importance. It was a nice discussion with so many questions being answered by fellow bloggers. The gist of the discussion is that Google does index the content even if you include ‘nofollow’, just that it doesn’t provide authority. If nofollow is excluded for links, then that link will get both authority as well as content index. Mutual link exchange among bloggers will certainly help in improving the page rank. If you find my blog useful and like it, feel free to offer some link love ;)
Got to know a bit more about the indirank and the parameters on which the rank is arrived at. If you don’t know, I have an indirank of 80 as on date. This is on a scale of 100 and higher the rank towards 100, better is the site performance. 80 and above is considered to be a good blog :), glad indiblogger recognizes me as a popular blogger! At the end, it was a kind of feedback session to make ‘indiblogger’ a better place. I had a good number of suggestions and hope the indiblogger team members have noted them all. I will look forward to see them being implemented at the earliest. More than all, got to know many bloggers from Bangalore and it is always nice to have such meets often to discuss and learn new things. Thanks to PotLuck for sponsoring the venue. I am reminding all you out there… if you get an opportunity like this, do make the best use of it. Don’t miss such a blogger meet next time!
PS: Note to self – Forget not to carry business cards whenever you head for such a social meet.
