The fact that the fruits shouldn't be rather than they can't be used for getting seeds for the session of planting is that the GMOs can't be allowed to sexually reproduce in a natural environment, because the recombination and modification of "genes" might lead to something completely undesirable. That is primarily due to recombination and mutations. You can control the first one, while the second is not in your hand. Though another accusation might be that the GM research companies are looking to exploit the farmers monetarily. This could be true, but there is a better reason for it (as explained above).
