Passport Renewal through Seva Kendra

My passport validity was about to expire in a couple of months and I was thinking of renewing it sometime soon. Very recently got to know about ‘Passport Seva Kendra’ (PSK) through a friend and decided to use this newly launched facility to renew my passport. All the information was available on their website about the documents, process, fee structure etc., It was indeed a very smooth option to fill out all the form detail online as well as submitting the same through their website. Also, there was an option to schedule the appointment with passport issuing authority online!

To be doubly sure, I called up their toll free helpline 1800-258-1800 to ensure I have the right set of documents and the process followed is correct. Since there was no change in address, I just had to drop in personally at PSK at a pre-scheduled time with current passport which is about to expire. Well, the other documents included the appointment acknowledgement print out and 2 self attested photo copies from the current passport.Indian Passport I was told explicitly that there is no need to carry photographs as they have set up a digital imaging system to capture photo there itself while processing the form. Also, I was told that the fee for reissue of passport can be paid at the processing counter. All is well until this point.

Rest of the story as it unfolded made me realize the famous saying – “if everything goes smooth without any hurdles, surely you are in wrong lane”. Well, I had the appointment between 1:30pm – 2:15pm at Passport Seva Kendra, Lalbagh road, Bangalore. Reached the premises and got inside the building at 1:00pm upon showing the acknowledgment print out of the appointment. Had to stand in the queue here too to get a token for visiting processing, verification and issual counters. The queue wasn’t moving at all. After an hour one of the official came out and said the servers are down and it may take a while. Later on got to know that the servers were down since 11:30am! Thanks to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) who have partnered with ministry of external affairs, India to empower the IT systems/infrastructure and to maintain these PSK kiosks.

Again at 2:30pm, one elderly official came to announce that they will switch over to manual mode of passport processing since the servers haven’t been restored and they are not in a position to retrieve the forms that applicants had submitted online. They decided to process those who had filled in forms in hand which weren’t submitted online. Online applicants were told to BUY form (which costs Rs. 10/-) and fill it up, ensure to have passport size photos, then head over to processing counters to get the work done. A fool in me, relying too much on computers had gone there without photos. I had 2 options : Either get the photos and fill up the form all over again manually or visit again some other day hoping to be lucky by then. Since there was a huge crowd and had to attend to work decided for the latter option.

So, this is what I learnt from todays experience:
1. Don’t rely on computer systems at government offices YET!
2. Always carry photographs no matter what whenever you need to fill a form related to govt offices.
3. Carry a pen in the pocket whenever you are out (my parents still shout at me for not complying to this since my college days, there is a bigger story on why don’t like to keep one… may be sometime later!)
4. Expect not to get the work done through govt offices as per the schedule.

Thanks for reading, hope you will not repeat what I did and may you have all the luck to get the “God’s work” done on time, as mentioned in the book! Remember, there is an engraved quote on the Vidhana Soudha – “Government Work is God’s Work”… YES! I understand that now in a better way.

Dear All
I got my passport two months after the submission of my application in Bangalore one there in bangalore one the lady who attended my case entered my name with spelling mistake, unfortunately I did not notice it in my acknolowledgement & I signed it .In my application I wrote the correct spelling but in my passport same thing which the bangalore one lady enterd name was there . My question is what work RPO bangalore will do they simply copy paste the data from bangalore one they never go through the application form which we submit
my suggestion is please recheck 10 times before you sign in bangalore one
Now I have to resubmit the same for spelling correction with fine

And the most irritating part is that the passport has been printed 9 days ago !

Be very polite and try to convince that if you do not get your passport by evening ( the day you visit RPO) you would not be able to present the paper.
Keep the proof of travel related plan with you and show it to her along with application, that would ensure that she takes note of it.
There was a doctor that day along with me when i met passport officer. For him also the same thing happened, hget e was promised that his passport will be delivered in two days and it did not happen. He went to passport officer and told her that she promised and it did not happen. He told that if he does not get passport by that day itself he can travel on some conference, she immediately told him to collect his passport from counter 10 by 4:30
So basically your case is strong now.Since she promised and you did not get the passport by that time
I am sure she would refer your case for counter delivery. Let me know if you need any help. Do not forget to take the proof of your travel along with you.

I would suggest that you go to RPO today itself since it is very urgent for you.
I am sure she will listen to your request Try to convince her.
Tell her that the passport status is still not changed.
Best of Luck

I went to passport ofz at 4.00 am 2day …w8ed there for 5 and a half hours to collect token # 1 but all these yielded N-O-T-H-I-N-G. In-spite of a detailed application , the invitation letter from London School of Economics and the Request from the ‘British Society for Population Studies’ to process the visa in a contingency basis ; the RPO was adamant in her stance of not giving me the passport by hand. She said that by evening the passport will be dispatched and it’d reach me 2mrw . But , I’ve lost all faith in government officials. In spite of being public servants , they treat general public as their servants. All my efforts of massaging oils of admiration to her ego failed. I never quite liked the misogynist opinions of Sigmund Freud. But after meeting her , I’ve realized the meaning of the saying “A woman’s worst enemy is another woman” .. why else could she managed to be so nonchalant after seeing a girl of her daughter’s age , on the verge of breaking down .The only consolation is that: I’ve tried my best. Now i am leaving everything on time and the divine.

Do not loose heart.
Wait till today evening for status go to “dispatch” else again go and meet the RPO tomorrow and tell her it is not dispatched.
I am sure you would get your passport tomorrow either by post or by hand.
I think since you have already visited the RPO two times you may not need a token next time. You can just tell the security guard that you have already met the Passport officer twice and can show you application ( comments from passport officer) as a proof.

Hope for the best!!!

Pushpendra,

I went to the RPO on 16th and met the regional passport officer at 2nd floor . I need to get my passport urgently as I m presenting a paper at LSE. But , she refused to give it to me by hand and said that my passport will be dispatched by day after 2mrw , that is 2day . But till now the status is “You would receive an sms/email once the passport is dispatched” . I am going to the RPO again at early morning tomorrow. If I don’t get it by 2mrw, seriously my tour will be cancelled . So, wish me luck !!!

Pushpendra,

I am having the same issue as yours. I applied on 30th June and the police verification has still not happened. It shows the same status “…sent to SP office district bangalore…” for me. Which office did you finally go to and where is it located. Can you also write about your experience there and pass on the contact and name of the acp so that we are not harassed.

Thanks on advance.

Nik/Praveen,
I got my passport finally. I do not have his contact number since they do not give it you.
The best part is that i got my passport delivered to me in my hand at RPO counter since it needed it immediately.
The bottomline is if you need your passport very urgently. Go to RPO Koromangla office ( but make sure that police verification is completed before that). If you go to the counter 7 ( meant for PSK applicant) and give your application of urgency he will tell that the passport will be delivered within 5 days but he can not give it by hand.
Instead of going to counter 7, meet the Passport office in the second floor. She is pretty helpful, she was working in the PSK Marathalli when i applied for the passport and now promoted to the post passport officer. Tell her the urgency and make sure that you tell that you do not get your passport by today or tomorrow you would be in big trouble. She will write something in your application and tell you to collect your passport from counter 10 at 4:30 PM same day. You go there at that time and you would be given your passport withing 5 minutes.
Since for both of you even the police verification from local police station is not done nothing can be done. If you need your passport urgently then visit police station, they receive the PP file on the second day of the application submission, but they will ask for money if you tell them for priority. If it is not urget then wait and watch, they will come to you for verification.Since it is an online application there is no possiblilty of file being lost in between.
Do not worry be patient if you not in dire need of it.

The best part of my passport story is that i have visited all the offices in my run for the passport and got the work done without paying even a single paisa.

Hi Pushpendra,

Congrats, I hope it would have been good exp for you from all the offices. Fact is many of us do visit these office in our life time then again either we bribe them or we don’t collect complete information from them and share with others. with this kind awareness soon things will change now i can educate my family members, friends and relatives. Their will be awareness. For me its not at all urgent. I was just worried because they may say they came for verification but i was not available or some reason in which they are very good. To avoid things i want to be little proactive. Now i will wait. My passport also granted nearly when nik’s granted. As i mentioned PSK helpline told it takes minimum 21 days for police verification.
I will keep posting the improvements.

Whenever you try to break the existing system impediments will be there. Particularly for Police department.
One Constable in the Commisionar office told me to pay 300 to get the work done immediately.Instead of accepting his demand i went and met the ACP. The constable and Sub-Inspector were furious because if everybody start doing this then they will loose theri business. Constable told me that you PP file has some more problem and will be returned to Polce station.( actully reason was me meeting the higher official for help).
I again went to ACP and he told me that my work will done today. He called the same SI to get my work done. Surprising this greedy fellow told him that one entry in my PP file has filled wrongly by the local police station.( he wanted the file to be returned). ACP told him to correct the entry and just put prinitng error. His face looked very small that time. he was helpless. He tried till last to stop my file as i told before, but since i was there till the last and kept meeting the ACP he could not do anything.
God bless these idiots. Everybody in this India can be reformed except the police.
RPO experience was pretty cool.

please help….

When the status changed to “message/email will be sent once the passport is dispatched”?
That is the day when the PVR has been sent to commisionar office to RPO. That is just the soft copy.
Hard copy is sent one later. So count the number of days from there?
I am also waiting for my passport. The status changed to above only on August 9 although police verification happened on 19th of July

Have you got your passport, I am still waiting after successfully submitting on 29th June 2010 after two months struggle. I knew my struggle not yet finished. Still my police verification not yet done. Today i called up PSK helpline the executive told it takes police minimum 21 days for verification. I am worried has Mohan mentioned that for him they never came for verification and even in status it was not properly updated. How many days did you waited before going to Commissioner office. Do you suggest me to wait for some more days ? And if i am not getting it even after a month whom shall i contact in police dept for this.

Thanks Mohan for sharing this with us. I’ve visited a Bangalore One center located at Old Airport road today morning to renew my old passport which was expired already. I’ve downloaded the form from passport.gov.in and filled everything with attested copies of supported documents. i was told by my friend that i can pay the fees by cash. My application was rejected by the following ‘VALID’ reasons:-)

* Application downloaded from their website is not valid since the format is changed recently and we have to buy a printed on from passport seva kendra. (B1 centers are not selling it)

* They dont accept cash, only DDs
* The photograph should be in white background.
* Finally BangaloreOne centers can accept fresh passport applications only not the renewals.

I was gone mad since i collected all the above informations from the website only and when i physically present all were set to false.

Thanks
Prakash

I got my verification done at Commisionar office. It is very big story but i did not heed to their demand of bribe. Finally ACP intervened and submitted the PVR for me. There are good people in the Commisionar office but very few, its your luck if you can find them since they do not allow you to enter inside.
If you do not need the passport in urgency then wait for it. Police will do the verification and send the report. Thet also have some deadline to send the PVR to RPO. Just relax and wait for them to contact.
Do not pay any bribe if you do not need it urgently, it may be delayed but 100% it will be done. Provide them all the document they ask for so that they should not be encouraged to ask for money.

Dear All,

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting PSK outer ring road for pasport reissue. Whatever I write will less then what I(all who r there) suffered.

Starting from taking online appointment 3 weeks ago, I was prepapred with all the necessary documents signed with multiple copies etc. I had the appointment at 1:30 pm. Reading about the hotch potches I went there early but had to wait outside till 1:00 as they dont allow(commoners) before the time. Once inside I went to the token counter to get my token. They asked me to wait till they call but when they didnt call I went to the counter and blasted them. Finally with token in hand I was taken inside the waiting room. It was full of people and no sitting place left. Anyway I was called within 5 mins to submit my application. This stage is managed by TCS. Pretty good. I would say efficient. They have around 20-25 conters with web cam, scanning facility etc. They took all my documents put them in a file. Took my photo and finger prints and everything was done within 10mins. Here I would like to mention that take all possible documents with you. They keep on asking for many documents which are not mentioned in the website even if its a reissue case. I was very happy that now its so fast and efficient. I was asked to wait for the second stage verification. The wait took about 2 hours and finally I went and shouted at the TCS person as to why they are not calling my number. Here I would like to mention that the number calling is totally random. They just call out some numbers. I saw people who had submitted their papers after me got the process completed much before me. So after shouting my number was called and I was asked to see a middle aged goverment official for verification. It was done in another five minutes. Now the number of conters had decreasd from 20 to 7 in level 2. Wait for level 3 was pathethic. No sitting arrangement extremely crowded section again
2 hours. Now the numbers of counters had decresed to 2. ” Sitting in them were two extremely old ladies scraching their ears and talking on phone half the time. From 25 to 7 to 2…so you can imagine the number of people. These old ladies who cant even differentiate computer mouse from a real mouse where govnt officials. TCS people were saying that their work is upto stage one only. They cant help with govnt officials. I lost my patience and argued with TCS people but they are a glorified highly paid data collectors only. Seeing me shouting they quickly put my number(totally random) and after 6 hours of wait I got my GO and receipt.
Here In a nut shell I would like to say that when it comes down to only two old ladies the RPO was better. Atleast there were more then two such old ladies and no levels 1-2 which are a afarce. Every thing can be done at one level only if Govnt puts one TCS person and one govnt official together in one counter. TCS person collecting data and govnt person doing the verification etc. Its a total waste of taxpayers money. Its just plain stupid.

I had the pleasure to visit PSK ring road Yesterday for reissue. Whatever I write/say will be less as to what i suffered there. I will write all that in detail later but to your question. Pl dont wait for sms etc. Go ther e early in the morning and get a token. While you are submitting your papers at stage one they will ask you whether you want a TAtkaal or normal. There you can decide and it will be processed accordingly. If you wait for online appointment it will be very late.

Hi all,

This horror movie i am going to write about is the part 2 of PP application. This level comes after successful submission of your application in the PSK.

I submitted on 21st july under tatkaal category, and waited for me to obtain it after 3 working days as promised by them, after having spent Rs.2500/- (extra 1500 rupees for tatkaal), as I needed it very urgently to book my visa interview.

Finding my status to be still “Printed” for nearly 7 working days and 9 days in total, could not resist reaching the Regional Passport Office (RPO) at koramangaala, 80 feet road. went there on 29th july at 10am, with reciept tat was given at PSK, after succesful submission. and after nearly 7 hrs of wait, i got some answer!!! Not the passport. Will tell you the steps to go forward, if you are a victim of such delay.
1. Go to RPO at 9.00 am .They issue tokens with numbers on them , as 2 batches. Once at 9.30am and 2nd time at 11.30am. Each batch will definitely have 300 people! Dont be shocked!
2. Wait in the queue, obtain token and be seated inside the hall. Waiting for token is outside (So bear it, rain or shine!)
3. Token numbers are called out 1 by 1. If it gets lapsed, then next day, another batch, another token. Tokens are valid only for THAT day.
4. If you wanna enquire about the status, and if u ve submitted the appli in any PSK, they will re-direct you to another counter. Again wait there, till ur turn comes. no tokens here, but just 1st come 1st serve.
5. Ask that (gently/politely tel him/her) person/authority to push your case, cos of some reason and tel him/her that u can submit a request letter or a proof such as filght ticket/contract letter, etc., They should agree to send your pp in 2 days.
6. They will not give you your pp in person at all. Be ready with a request letter addressed from your address as given in ur passport appli and addressed to “The passport officer, bangalore -95″, to state the need for urgency.
7. Please carry water bottle. Wash room is okay dokay maintained. Lunch can be had anywhr, since koramangala has too many restos. U can buy some coffe/biscuits, if u cross the road. You are allowed to show token and re-enter any time into the hall!

In my case, i cud lay my hands on the pp number, as i had to book for interview asap. And was assured that my pp will reach me in 2 working days. Came home and saw the status , to my amazement, it read, “Ready for despatch”!!!!!

God save, every pp applicant!
Dont lose heart, keep trying until u get it.
awaiting my pp,
nithya

Hi Nithya,
Even i had gone through this horrible experience when i wanted to know if RPO can take up the correction of name (Name bifurcation – I had mentioned clearly first name , last name in my PP application. But they had printed it together). I went to RPO at 4.30 PM. Police there told me to come next morning at 7.30 to wait in the queue. I reached at 8am, there is queue already. My number was 103 at 8am. Finally when my turn came for ‘enquiry’ it was 12 noon. They casually said “go to PSK and apply for fresh pp. Or opt for correction, wait for 15 days or more. There is good chances that after 15 days, they may ask you to go for fresh pp”.
So, i decided to go for fresh pp.
So, if you are going for enquiry, go as early as possible and stand in the queue because there are only 2 counters to handle hundreds of people.

Hi Mohan and others,

Finally my passport status is granted*

Story behind it.

1) On 28th july 2010 again i went to psk with address proof as gas connection and bank statement.
They took me to cse, they scanned and everything was fine.
Again i wanted to meed same VO as she asked me to get latest gas bill and letter from Bank.

2) Again shocked when she told in gas its written as door lock and in my bank letter there is no date when it issued it just says only from when ur having account.

I strongly feel that VO was expecting some money. I concluded this when she called some babu and was asking for some number so that she can grant it, and he need not to come also. She was speaking in Tamil. Still i believe they haven’t given up their habit.

I came back home in rain cursing that lady. I was burning from inside.

Next morning i got up prayed god , told him today i am going taking your name if it fails its your failure.

I went to axis bank got date entered for 29th, and got More then one year bank statement.

This time i was very cautious got seal and sign on statement and letter also.

Went to Psk at 11.30
For Vo it took half an hr as they gave priority to my token.
This time she tried her level best to find fault in that ,Mam i learn t so much still why i will make mistake. I haven’t spoken a single word also, she approved VO. Then for GO i waited till 1pm then GO was cool no hassle there. She told its granted. I got my acknowledgment letter status showing as Granted* at 1.30,
I came out relieved thanked god for his grace and mercy on me.

Now waiting for the remaining battle.

Regards,
Praveen

Hi
I had a case of name bifurcation. My passport was issued recently however without last name. Hence i had to re-apply.
Last week Thursday and Friday, website was down and it was very frustrating. However later the system was set right.
Since i was following this blog i got a lot relief. Nithya had suggested to apply online and go there with a print of ARN no that we receive. If you are applying in Tatkaal system, then you will be given a token/appointment there itself. After getting token you can go home and come back at the specified time.
I had applied on 26th. I went to PSK at 6.30am. Staff came at 7.45am and gave me slot of 1PM. I went to office and reached the spot at 1PM. Waited patiently and gave details.
Today the status shows that, passport has been dispatched and an email also has been sent to my id !! Just can’t believe.
- In my case i didn’t have any police verification and it was only name bifurcation.
Thanks to Mohan and Nithya, i could submit application without much tension.

Hope this part of the blog is useful for some more ppl who dont get the Passport delivered/depatched on time. read on…

Hi Nithya / Prasanna,

I have the same case of surname bifurcation from the given name.
In this regard i have to apply for a re issue.

I had written written an email to the PSK helpdesk. They replied saying that i had to submit a statement in form affidavit mentioning that i had filled it wrongly the prior application.

Could you please help me suggesting the format of this statement?
Also kindly let me know if any other documents are required?
For me only requirement is the name bifurcation and every thing else remains the same.

Thanks for your help!!

Hi Mohan,

Thanks a lot for maintaining this blog. I thought should contribute after all the info your blog has dished out & helped me prepare for this. Some tips based on my experience today:
a. If you have the luxury of time, take an online appointment & go 30 mins before the allotted time in peace.
b. Even if you cant tolerate the nearly month long wait for the slot, it is still useful to fill up your stuff online as it helps processing faster at the various counters (although it blocks out other users from gaining that slot & hence strongly discouraged by the TCS team in PSK).
c. The number of tokens issued per day is 100-120 depending on the day & the number people that turn up on that day. Coming in at 2am is too much, but walking in at 7am is also risky & on the edge.
d. Be prepared to have many ID proofs, for it is difficult to predict what is valid & what is not.
e. The staff are generally helpful & courteous, so thats a big relief unlike many other govt. offices. The facility is very clean and well maintained. They make you run around between A1, B2, C3 etc., but it is not chaos and well organized.
f. There is a coffee/tea stall & some biscuits/chips sold, but if you need hard food it is difficult to get till lunch time when they give you a recess of 20-30mins to go out. We left home at 6am and till 2pm, practically survived on coffee. So please get some snacks if you cant stand such long hours of no food.
g. Senior citizens and people with kids get some priority.

I think for a city the size of Bengaluru (actually rest of Karnataka also depends on the overall 4 PSKs including the 2 in Bengaluru.), 2 PSKs handling 250 passports per day is insufficient. No wonder there is such a long wait time for online appointments. The way it is setup right now is not sustainable and someone will protest when the delays become inordinate. They are in the right direction by eliminating middle-men, but the way it is now is too rigid & no room for any concession. If they issue tokens differently based on re-issue, change in particulars etc., more people can be accommodated as these cases dont involve the same number checks as new entries. My 2 paisa based on the experience today.

Please let the blog continue and guide more people along the way.

Hi Mohan

I had submitted my children’s application (fresh passport) thru Bangalore One on the 01st of June, 2010. Finally around 20th of July the passport seva website gave me an update status as “” Passport application has been submitted by applicant along with applicable fees (if any) and supporting documents” and the date mentioned as application receieved date was 24th June, 2010…now there is now more status updates on this on the website…when i call the toll free no they ask me to head over to RPO Bangalore at Koramangala and follow up-there.

Out of your experience with the blog and comments…what do u think should be my next course of action?

Do let me know…

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sreenivas,

Thanks for the information. Yes i have informed my mother that if they come tell them i have gone to office, evening i will go to police station and enquire them. Anyway now as per your suggestion i will inform them before only. But i have feel that how these people will behave because i have seen police people only collecting bribe and abusing public. I never felt them as friendly people. I will try to convey them. Then its my luck.

Hi Praveen,
It’s better you go to the concerned police station and let them know that you are expecting police verification for passport. Request them to do the needful. In case you are not residing at the address (eg., your native place) do let someone in the native place know about it and it helps if that police station is contacted in this regard. It has worked for me few years ago and hence I thought of sharing this info.
Best wishes

56 pushpendra July 28, 2010 at 11:28 am

I can tell you what happened in my case. Not sure how the police at your place will do it.
1. Applied for passport on 12th June
2. Got a call from Police station on 18th that i need to come to police to get the verification done. I need to carry 4 set of photographs ( since i stayed at two places under same police station in last one year.If it is single place then i think only 2 will be required. But better keep the extra passport photos)
3. Went to police station immediately. Since my wife could not go with me the police constable decided to come to my home to do the verification. ( i applied for the passport of my wife as well along with mine).
4. you should carry the proof of your stay in the current adress for last one year ( Rental agreement if in rented house. If you have stayed in two different houses in last one year then rental agreement for both the houses you stayed or Electricity bill in your or gas connection receipt in your name.)

In my case i did not have rental agreement so i gave them my company HR letter as adress proof and a written consent from my old house owner for house i stayed before.
Good part is that police people will be flexible if you keep there hand warm else you have to be perfect in terms of document they require.

police official sent my recommondation to commis. office only on 24th ( 7 days after the verification) and that is creating delay in passport. If would recommend you to follow up with police officer everyday if you need passport urgently else you can leave to him to do at his own convenience.
Let me know if you need any other information

Always there should be one person at home that too on working day. I am just wondering is the same case in other countries also. I have never been to other country can some one please tell me.

Suba exactly what they do in police verification how challenging is that.

Because for me the 1st challenge itself not over.

Just to share with all of you.
I applied for three passport in the span of two days.
12th July:
1. Applied for my wife. Since my wife does not have any address proof in her name i had to apply for inclusion of spouse name in my passport.
The verification mode for my wife was pre-verification ( due to fresh passport) and for me was Post-verification ( re-issue with old report clear)

14th July:
I applied for my 2 month old child. Since both of us had already applied for the passport they just took the file number of both application.Birth cirtificate of my wife. Photocopy of my cancelled passport and my adress proof photocopy.
Verification mode for my child was no verification.

I received a call for police verification on 18th July. Verification happened both for me and my wife together.

1. I received my passport on 21st July
2. I got my child’s passport on 24th July

Only my wife’s passport is left and that is because the police verification delay.Till today the status shows that they have not received the clear report from police. I am optimistic that i may happen this week.

What is the status showing in PSK tracker?
They do not give the passport to anybody other than the addressee and that is you?
They did not give my passport even to my wife although she showed them the marriage certificate. I had to rush from office to collect it in person.
I have applied for fresh passport for my wife. For her also police verification happened last sunday. Till date the tracked says the same status “application sent to SP office for verification and passport will issued after getting a clear report”.
Not sure how many more days it will take.

I do not think the post office people can keep it with them. They will return it back to passport office Koromangla. You can check with the passport seva kendra whether they keep it with them or it is there is with the RPO koromangala only.If the PSK people keep it with them then you can easily get it from there but RPO case i am not sure how difficult it is, since it is again govt.

Hi Mohan,
Even i applied for a fresh passport thru PSK and believe it or not, I did finish the process in 4-5 hrs. Had an online appointment. The filling up of forms was done by the TCS ppl (around 30 counters exist for the same) and also pic was clicked by them.this was no hassle process and i completed this in 30 mins sharp. It was then the problems started. I had to go thru 2 more stages (i.e. Verification officer VO and Granting Officer GO). I was made to wait for atleast an hr (in the waiting lobby and then in front of the VO counters), before all my details were checked and verified. (there are some 7-8 VO ). And waiting for the Granting officer was even more troublesome.(again waiting period of over 1 hr) There are totally 4 nos of Officers and you can imagine the queue for that. One can just imagine the no. of ppl coming out of 30 counters and then waiting for the 8 VO counters and then for the 4 GO counters! i feel the process takes a beating when it comes to the VO and GO. Otherwise, the filling up of the appl forms, a single signature and photo clicked by the digital camera save the effort of filling up a very hard, non understandable appl form and signature mismatches and non acceptable photgraphs.

Rgds

I felt same thing, I had completed form submission with in 30 minutes, n waited for next two counters( VO, GO) almost 3 hrs. VO was saying to me these A counter (Private employees) people are doing fast.

If they reduce next 2 counters to 1, they can handle more applicants.

Hi Nitya,

I know its my mistake to give my neighbors address but i had left with no option. How can i get electricity bill, water bill or other bills which they ask.
For ration card also they are asking 2000 rs bribe. Where ever u go they want bribe and no one is there to give proper information also. After going through all this now i can guide others. I think if we can give correct information to others and when things not happening we should stand up together against this system. Our Bangalore city has lot of migrating population from all over India how can they get all the proof. Even to get your telephone connection you need address proof. I feel postal ID proof could be one solution. And what about the unique identification number which Mr. Nandan is heading. I know our country is moving towards citizen friendly. I don’t blame the rules but the people.

Am I doing something wrong ?

Ganesh, that is not to worry about. Even if you can’t enter it completely while filling it online or on form, when you go for PSK visit, they will run you through the details you have entered and then they will shorten ‘cross’ to ‘cr’, ‘block’ to ‘blk’, ‘phase’ to ‘phs’, ‘floor’ to ‘flr’ etc., For Indian addresses, it should be around 120+ chars than just 42 chars ;)

I really need it quick, and if I get my number on the 8th and submit the application then, I am looking at mid to last October to get my passport. Is anyone else in the same boat? Please help…

Hi Nitya,

Thanks for your encouragement. I will not give up.

I am applying it for my employment with wipro. In wipro its mandatory to have passport. As my father was an army person we used to move places a lot and we never had any permanent address. For my studies i stayed in Bangalore in my granys place and i did not had anything to prove my address. I had only my bsnl postpaid mobile bill with my granys neighbors address as from him only i took land line bill for postpaid connection. which i got when i was in collage with student plan for just paying 100 rs monthly. Then for joining pizza hut as delivery boy i required driving license with this bsnl bill i got my LL then with this LL i got DL. Then with this DL i got my SBI bank acc. All these proof has my granys neibhors address. Then these voter id people came they gave voter with my granys address but with wrong area. Now my only mistake is not having own house. I know in india many are not in their own house and they change their residence very frequently but still our govt acts as if every one living in their own house with all their proof. But in past i learn t one thing that with money lot of things can be done easily here. Even though i don’t want to bribe any one and i feel guilt by doing that but we are left with no other option , but this time i will not bribe any one. I will wait until i don’t get my passport from those govt officials.

Again thanks for your encouragement i felt very low today.

Praveen

Praveen,
Your mistake is not staying in various places, but you did not give your address (granny’s address) for the ID proofs tat u applied…. From now on try to take all the IDs in ur residence.
All u need is
1. Bank passbook wch says that u reside in the same address for 1 year or more- to prove ur present address
2. Birth certificate or 10th/puc/degree certificate issued by the karnatak examination board – to prove ur date of birth.
the 2nd proof wil be accepted/used to apply for non-ecr stamp in the passport.

these are the docs to be produced. You wil get ur passport with the name , dob and address as in the proofs tat you are submitting.

Anyway i have spoken with bank person for letter instead of acc statement. mean while i will search for my gas bill also and my SBI pass book which has only different door number.
I am just waiting for it, For todays effort i missed my lunch missed my office and got severe headace. After all those high tech and other things still its a govt office. Just bettet then other govt office. I just wonder how easyly all crinimals and influntial people get passport only we common people are taken for ride.
Already we face so many prob in our life without sufficient money. Even govt is not helping us. We are not asking govt to pay us when we are unemployed atleast govt emp should work for that they paid for. They really act as god. offcourse its govt work. I hate this govt people and govt workers. I am sorry if i hurted any ones sentiment. But the agony i am going through makes feel so down.

Praveen,
i understand your frustration. But plz, take it very seriously and be prepared for the worst. I had taken (u won’t belive) 7 ID proofs, affidavit, all my certificates from 10th std to my PG, to prove my identity on earth! and was asked to produce NONE!

I overheard some1′s passport being on hold, because he produced some bank statements. And these guys are asking for the pass book and not statements. You need not ve any transaction for the past 1 yr, but get ur passbook updated. Atleast interest for the balance amount in ur axis bank a/c will be credited and thats a sufficient tx.
Go thro the instruction part in the form (form 1) that they issue for 10Rs at PSK. it has got every doc needed for various cases. All the very best.

Out of 3 address proofs, 1 must fall under the proofs given from a) to i) in the form1 (under tatkaal docs). One ID should be a photo identification. This is a must if its tatkaal. all these 3 IDs shd ve the same name with same spelling and same address.
May i know wat is the reason you are applying for?

Dear All,

I came to know about psk in newspaper when it was launched. Then i got offer from one the reputed company where they told passport is mandatory,
So i logged into their website and found all necessary information.
For address proof it was written DL or Letter Head from reputed company will do. So i went to my HR and got my add proof as in all my other doc its number 4 instead of number 1, i mean my house number. After requesting my HR he gave address proof at number 1 only.

On 22/06/2010 i went to psk after fixing online appointment. It was easy process with TCS people. They are very friendly and work better except their server which goes down many a times. For this guys working there cant be blamed. But real Indian government office scenario came when i went for VO verification officer. Directly he told DL cant be excepted as add proof and neither my letter from my comp hr. He asked me to get letter from Area thasildar. When i heard the name thasildar i came to know either i have to bribe any one or i have to do something else. I went to thasildar off which is opp to Mysore bank near majestic. Wow that office really superb. Really superb. There lot of people are waiting for bakras. they were asking for 2500 rs for that domicile certificate. Then after going for a long. I searched my home and found GAS connection details where it was on my fathers name and in address it was written c/o praveen kumar k add. So took this and i found one affidavit which i prep in 2006 to make passport. Today 22/7/2010 again i went to psk .
1) Tcs person asked me to wait for govt officer to come to verify then govt office at waiting room told its ok.
then i went to VO again this lady had prob in add proof after convincing her lot she asked for gas and one year bill.

I could not find one year bill i went with gas book and 2009 bill. Again this lady rejected that also.

My god i really don’t know how to get it.

My only mistake we don’t have a permanent house and i stayed with my grandmother to complete my education in Bangalore.

I just wonder in our country does every one living in own house.
Does every one has electricity and telephone line.
Does water bill comes in our name.

In city like Bangalore every one is keep changing his residence frequently.

Criminals get things easily by just paying money but we people are taken for ride. I hate this system. When i am showing that lady all my proof like my insurance, marriage cert, employment offer letter affidavit, gas connection.

Still she is not ready to take it.
I am proud to be an Indian but at i cant be proud of my country’s system and the people who are given responsibility of the system.

Praveen

Hi Nithya
i too have the issue of name bi-furcation. I plan to go for tatkaal option. I have some questions. If you can answer them, it would be great.
1.will they let me in even if i don’t have online token ?
2. This priority online q you mentioned – is it different from the q ppl with online token or we have to join them too ? Basically i need to know which q i need to join if i don’t have the appointment.
3. After filling application online, is there any other application that i have to fill ?
Thanks.

Prasanna,
valid questions. plz see the corresponding anwers below.
1. Nothing called online token. Its only ARN number, which u get, after filling the application form (form 1 or main application) online. They will allow u in and issue tokens, if u show them the printout of your ARN number.
2. u need to join the priority online queue, whr ppl ve already filled the form online and ve the ARN number. U dont need to take the appointment at all. plz dont waste ur time by joining the general queue, wch has arnd 300 ppl at 8am! (Some i think, will sleep overnight there, to be the first in the general queue!!!)
3. No other application to be filled.
all the very best. Be prepared even for the worst. Keep ur cool. U will get it done smoothly.

Sathya,
Dont rely on appts, cos til august 20th you dont ve one! Better take the ARN number – printout, from the site and go to the PSK ( i visited lalbagh, both are equally crowded, go to a place wch is near ur house; cos if u get an appt at 11am or later, u can go home, refresh and get bak). Make sure you reach the office by 7am atleast. You never know, when the number of applicants in queue wil increase! At 8.am when the counter opens, there is a n officer who will ask if we ve opted for tatkaal. These clever fellows give priority to tatkaal. Even for normal cases tokens are issued, but with a slight delay.(Hope u understand wat i mean).
Plz carry water, biscuits in case u need.
Your marriage certi should have her name with the same spellings as in the ID proof that you will be producing.
I am not sure abt the attestation.

Applied for re-issue for my passport on 12th of July to include my spouse name in it.
The verification officer told that since the passport is damaged i have to pay 1500 Rs more ( so total of 1000 ( for normal) + 1500 for damaged).
Since my old passport was issued from a different Region “post verification” was required to be done.
Got my new passport today just in 9 days.
I think it is miraculous changes in the passport process.I never imagined that.

Hi All
I have applied online and planning to visit PSK sometime next week. I dont see any appointment available. So can I go directly, if so at what time I should reach the PSK?. Which one seems to be better? Marathalli or Lalbagh?

I wanted to add my spouse to the passport, I have a marriage certificate. Do we need to provide only the self attested copy or do we need to get it attested by a gazetted officer?

Thanks
Sathya

Not sure about Lalbagh but Marathalli is good.
Be there by 3:00 AM in the morning so that you can get the walkin token comfirtably.
Documents required:
1. Old passport and its self attested copy.
2. Marriage certificate and self attested copy
3. current adress proof if it is different from the address in the passport.

Hi all,
This is to all who wanna apply for Re-issue of Passport(pp), with the issue of “Bifurcation of Given name into Given/First name and Surname”. This mainly happens with south Indian names, which is usually empty/blank in the Surname column. All the other information remains the same in this case, like address, birth place, etc.,

Reqd docs :
1. General and Tatkaal category : Original pp and a photocopy of pp, attested by the applicant (pp holder)
Simple…. Thats is all they ask you…. NOTHING more…

But as of docs required section in the application, please carry
1. original affidavit, signed by a notary, stating your name and residential address.
2. 3 ID proofs – 1 should be a photo ID proof.
It may be a combination of DL, HR letter from your company, Postal ID, Birth certificate, Voter’s ID, PAN card, etc.
3. 2 Photo copies of the same (each)docs.

Suggestions on filling and booking appointment.
1. Please fill the form online and submit it. It gives you an ARN number. Take a printout of it. even if u ve not booked the online appointment, no problem. reach PSK by 7.00am atleast, and be in the Priority ONLINE queue.
2. Online queue is a priority queue and very few people are found in that queue. The general queue has around 200 ppl standing (in the footpath) at 5.30am in the PSK.
3. Between 7.45am & 8.00am , they issue the token. Tokens are approx 150 per day, excluding the online appointments. Priority online queue, under tatkaal category will get the preference.
4. Take the appointment and go to PSK just half an hour before the appt time.
5. these are the steps
a) Security Checking and Issue of token
b) You will be (ONLY the applicant) asked to go for document verification, at a primary level.
c) You will be sent for taking Photo/Finger print/Doc verification/Payment of fees to a counter where the TCS guys verify every applicant. They give you a reciept for the amount paid.
d) You will have to wait for atleast an hour before you next proceed to the VO. (verification officer). The VO takes jus 2 minutes exactly in this case.
e) wait for another 15 mins, before gonna meet the G.O. granting officer. He took arnd 15 mins for me and finally stamped my old passport as “cancelled”
f) Take the already issued reciept and old pp, handover tat at exit, they give u another acknowledgement.

JOB OVER, COME OUT RELIEVED!!!!
I just completed this process. was lucky enough to take the appointment at 8am (had mistakenly joined the general queue at 5.30am as the 100th applicant, and later joined the priority online queue at 7.30am) and go home, refresh, and then bak to PSK at 10.15am, process ended at 1.00pm !!!
Hope to get my new Passport soon.

Hi
I am reading the posts quite sometime. I booked for online appointment on 28th June and got on 16th July. Finally after spending around 7 hours (very very badly organised) i submitted my application on normal. Actually i wanted to submit in tatkal and as it was closing time for them and the person was not convinced with my documents (inspite of showing my pancard, obc certificate, Form I, bank statement, rent agreement, birth certificate, he asked me for Form F,which i couldn’t give at that time). Now i heard it takes around 20+ days to get the passport. As i am in urgency is it possible to convert it to tatkal at this stage. pl. help me. … what else can be done.

Kavitha, once you apply, I am not sure how it can be switched over to tatkal. All I can say is keep a regular check on the status of your file through online tracking and speed up the police verification as needed. That should make things faster for you. I can’t think of any other alternative as of now.

I had applied for the passport on the 2nd of may 2010 at bangalore one.I wanted to apply for Tatkal passport but the person at bangalore one had informed me that the tatkal passport is valid only for 1 year so I dropped the idea and decided to go for the normal passport with 10 years validity which according to them I would get in about 40 days. I was give a file number starting with B. I got to know that we can check the status of the passport online at http://rpobangalore.gov.in/npassport.asp by entering the file number and the applicants date of birth.

After 10 days of applying there was a message sent to my cell number mentioned in the application I got a message for police Verification. I went to the police station with all the sets of documents I had but after reachin there at 8 am I realised I had come too early for them so I went back and decided to come back at 11 .when I went back at 11 they asked me to provide 3 photographs the same ones I had given for the passport. I had to run back and get the photos at last the police verification was over and since that was a friday they promised to send the file to the commisioner office on monday.

When I checked on Wednesday the status had changed from red (Police verification not recieved ) to Green (Police verification completed ) so I believe they had sent the report on monday . the status remained that way for 2 months. I decided to visit the bangalore one center for help as he had given the time line of 40 days. there I was informed that visiting the RPO would help as they had to issue the passport so I decided to go to the RPO bangalore for assistance. the office timings mentioned in the website was 9:30 to 12:30 so I went there 45 minutes early to avoid an trouble , the moment I entered the passport office I was amazed to see the crowd that was gathered there for some assistance at 8:45. I enquired that I wanted to convert my passport from normal to tatkal. I was told to stand in a queue next to the gate that was for tatkal. I realised that there were about 60 people ahead of me in the queue. we were given a pink page for the conversion which required to fill in the file number one passport size photo had to be attached and wait till the turn to meet the concerned peson I had to wait 3 hours in queue before I could get to the counter.

At the counter the lady took the pink page and the acknowledgement slip and checked the file status and informed me to go to the room 14 to meet the rpo. there also there was queue of the same people who were ahead of me in the queue outside. I waited for my turn then got to meet the RPO he checked the status of the application and informed that the passport would be dispatched by friday that week . as per the process I asked If I need to pay the tatkal charges of 1500 for 5-7 days or 1000 for 7-14 days. but got to know that if the passport is not delivered between the given timeline and if the police verification is completed then they will change the passport from normal to tatkal on the promised dispatch date I visited the RPO once again to try my luck if I could get the passport could be given to me in hand but that was not possible but I got the passport the next day of the promised date Yuppersssssss!!!

Sharing my experience at PSK, Outer Ring Road:
Case: Applied for renewal of Passport (Expiring this month)

Wanted to apply in Tatkal but worried because of following issues
1. Passport Issued from Bhopal,
2. Address change to current address in Bangalore (But recently shifted a new apartment in May, So had a concern with the one year condition of address)
3. Wife name to be added.

Process I followed:
1. Submitted the application online for renewal of passport at passportindia.gov.in on 12 July. Got the ARN number. Printed the application receipt.
2. Prepared 2 set of Photocopies for the following document:
a) HR Letter for Address Proof + Company id
b) ICICI Bank Statement for last year with the latest address.
c) First 2 pages & Last 2 pages of Passport
d) Marriage Certificate

3. Checked appointment for submitted application but next available appointment was on 09 August.

4. For Tatkaal, went to Mayo Hall and got the Annexure I affidavit.

5. On 15 July i.e. today, reached PSK at 3 AM. Found that there were people already standing since last night. People decided to adopt a small process to avoid chaos for token distribution (2 days back police was called to control the crowd).
People (with the help of security of PSK) decided to enter name in a sheet in the order they reached PSK. So first guy who reached at 9:00PM did the entry and rest followed.
My number was 36 in that list. Slowly more people came and they also entered their name in the list.
A queue was formed at 5:00 AM based on that list. Slowly people came and starting joining queue. There were few issues raised by people who came late but as most people were happy with the process adopted, they followed.

6. At 8:00 AM, token distribution started. I showed the online application receipt and photocopy of the supporting document, was forwarded to counter to collect the token. Got the token but it was put under normal process. On checking at the counter, I was informed that the Application processing guy will check my doc & will confirm. I moved inside to the waiting room for Application processing.

7. My number was called and I went to the application processing guy who verified my document and made a file. He took my photo using camera attached to his computer and also the finger prints.

8. I told him that I want to apply under Tatkaal but he said that my current passport is issued from Bhopal, so only Granting officer can confirm that. He added a special note in his application system that I want to apply under Tatkaal.

9. I paid the normal process fee i.e. 1500 (for 60 Pages PP) and a receipt was given to me with the file. Came out to the waiting room.

9. After sometime, I was called for Verification of document by Verification Officer. He checked all the document with the original and was fine with the documents. I told him that I want to apply under Tatkaal. He just checked whether I have Annexure I which I showed to him. He was happy & returned it saying it is not required now.

10. After Verification, came out to waiting room and waited for my call for the meeting with Granting Officer. my turn came soon and I went to her desk. I gave her my file and requested her to process my file under Tatkaal. She cross-checked the history of my Passport in her computer and approved my application for Tatkaal.
She told me to back to same Application processing guy and convert the application to Tatkaal.

11. Went back to the same application processing guy. He converted my application to Tatkaal and took additional tatkaal fees and gave me receipt. He forwarded my application for verification. Went to same verification officer who checked the application again in his system and forwards it to Granting officer.
I went to same granting officer who cross-checked my application and granted me the approval. She informed me that I should get the passport in 4 working days.

12. I said thanks to her and went to Exit gate where I was issued the acknowledgment letter.

13. Came out of Passport Office at 11:10 AM.

Keeping my finger crossed to get the passport before next w/e

Hi Mohan

Just to tell you that we got the re-issued passports in our custody yesterday- 13th July…and we had applied for it on 2nd July…it was quite a seamless effort for us..except that we had to go to the post office to collect it as we were not at home when it arrived…your blog will help a lot of people trying to get their passports in order.with the mixed reactions here people will know what worst they can expect, However i still have faith in the new system and it is only a matter of time before the system is streamlined to function flawlessly.

With much regards

I went there at 6.30 -waited in the PRIORITY que meant for online applicants. At 9.30am, it is announced that there is actually no priority if you fill your form online – there by lessening official time. No prizes for guessing the overall process – it is a pity that Indians will have to fight endlessly for better facilities in our country – nothing at all in place. The much hyped advertisements which screamed that you can get your passport in a week is all false. Even Taktal applications take 2 weeks since you would not get an appointment to meet the passport officials. Normal applicants take 2 weeks to an appmt – then it may take 3 weeks to get your hands on your passport. So is the new PSK system helping any one. Yeah, it is filling the coffers of TCS & normal mortals please make way for more such gimmicks by Government.

Toilets stink – Take a torch & hand fan when you get in – carry a umbrella & jacket when you are made to wait outside – loose sleep since you need to reach well before 7am to get a token.

” we have 2 hands only, how many applications can we handle in a day – we have a mandate of handling about 500 passports in a day only” says the operations man from TCS. This he says, is double the number than the previous days. Not very encouraging for a passport applicant.

Now, we ask. Did we ask you to limit yourself to 500 a day. Make it 2000 a day, add more people.

115 Mohan July 20, 2010 at 6:24 am

Only priority is that you don’t need to wait in the long queues in the early mornings. You can walk inside upon producing the online appointment at the mentioned time. Apart from that rest all is the same!

Me also had a horrible experience with my passport re-issue. Actually its still going on. After 21 days of submitting the application, when the police verification was still not done, I went to RPO, Koramangala. Got to know that they haven’t received the police verification report!! So I had to go to the police station, bribe them and even after that PVR(police verification report) didn’t reach RPO on time. So I had to go to commissioner’s office quite a few times (since the person there was really rude and kept on asking me to come back later) and find out about the PVR. The new passport helpline is totally useless since they never provide you any concrete information. All they do is ask your name, DOB and full address every single time you call up. I got 2 calls for feedback, and even after telling that the service was pretty bad, they didn’t seem to be bothered!!

Reply

118 Archana July 13, 2010 at 9:05 am

Well, the helpline agent told me that they log in to the same page as we do to track the status and they do not have any additional information! Are’nt they supposed to know more than what is being shown in the track status?!!

Reply

119 Maromi July 13, 2010 at 10:56 am

Exactly!!! I would definitely expect some more information from the helpline. For every single query, they ask you to go to RPO, Koramangala and check. What is the whole point of having a helpline, if we ourselves have to find out everything!! Now the site says after police verification, the passport will be dispatched within 3 days. Its already past 3 days and the passport isn’t dispatched yet. The agent asked me to wait for 2-3 days more and after that go to RPO. WTH!!!

Even though I collected my passport from the post office, the website shows the following message on status track page:

Applicant passport has been returned undelivered on 02/07/2010 due to reason- — .To fix an appointment contact the passport office where you have submitted the application.

Has anyone else observed a similar stuff? yet another goof up i suppose in their tracking mechanism.

I heard today that passport no is made available on the net but finally the passport is to be dispatched by RPO and there is always a waiting list of 2000+ :) . Several agents roam around asking 600-800 buck for getting the work done in three days:). TCS is hopeless. Most of the time servers are down and now after 1-2 days of standing in the line for passport application submission shelling out another 1000 bucks.

well i tell please do not believe in an agent and lose out money. My friend tried to apply reissue passport through an agent in psk and when officers cam to about incident there took the passport and even tried complain to police. My friend had to waste 4 days to meet the officer and pay penalty . Then he was allowed and granted new passport. Any way his passport came in 11 days that to normal.
Any way it is quite like same like old system , where at RPO we need to stand in queue as psk for many days so that our passport application is accepted. I wasted my 2 whloe days at RPO Kormangala to get my passport granted. Any way we cannot complaint or blame new syetem as same will take a few months or year to get establieshed. Let us not forget the agents an some offiers are trying to complain so that there can make quick bunks out of passport service. As now same has been controlled in some way. Any way i request if any one is trying to get apply and make appointment through online make your requests after 22.00 hours as the server is up and is hassle free. In fact we got appointment at early date and our process took merely 3 hours as we made our appointment by afternoon 2:00 and we finished and got granted status by 5.15.
Lets hope our people get appointment through online and take enough documents , visit psk then you will find difference in there service.

1. What would be the status (under track status in the passportindia website) once the passport is dispatched?
2. How long does it take to reach by post (local address) once the passport is dispatched?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have been going through this blog’s posts quite a few times over the last few days as both my husband’s and my son’s passport (6 yrs old) had to be renewed. The moment i got to know that Friday -2nd July was a holiday at school i started putting things together so that i could try and save my son taking a holiday for finger printing at the passport office. Going by the feedback here i got the manual application and photos ready with supporting documents and also applied online (without uploading the supporting documents) and took the ARN nos. However no appointment was available (next available appt was around 21st July). But we decided to take a chance. My husband was at the PSK Lalbagh at 7am on 2nd July and he entered inside the building by 745am. After getting his token no. he took permission from the officials about our minor son arriving late;and requested that we could join him without being in the Q again; which they obliged. My son and i reached the PSK around 855am. By this time my husband had finished verifying the documents through the staff and also finished the formalities through the CSE’s and filed his application, photos and finger printing done and paid his fees. He was waiting Verification and Granting only which starts by 930am. Incidentally he was 3rd in the online applicants list. After my son and i reached there we were straightaway given our token and ushered into the main hall and finished filing his application and paid up the fees. Sharp at 930am they called out names of all the minor applicants (Which was very thoughtful..there were 7-8 of them) and after that they started calling aplicants by order. Since both my husband and my son were applying for renewal they considered both applications together. We finished our verification and the granting of application and we got our exit form at 1015am. We are really impressed. Even the staff there are working on how to ensure smooth running of operations and minimal waiting time. The main bosses preferred not to sit in the cabins but were on the floor and ensured that each and every staff was kept busy. Everyone was very courteous and knew what they were talking about! On a general conversation the officer mentioned to us that the aim was to make this pilot process a success and ensure that no one is made to wait more than 45 mins. They are also deliberating to reduce the fees for online applicants because they want to encourage this project. I feel any project will have teething problems in the initial stages; how much ever we do the testing; the issues that arise when working online on the project cannot be judged unless it is underway…Yes it is for us to see now how long it will take to get the passport on hand but yes so far the experience has been fantastic! And this blog also helped me to expect the worst..i went loaded with books, food, water etc..and my son was upset that his picnic was over even before it started!
Thanks…Raji

Hi Raji, thanks for sharing your experience. I am glad it was very smooth for you. I too have observed that they process the applications of senior citizen and parents with infant kids on a priority basis. I am glad at least they are being treated fairly.

They enquire about your stay with your neighbors and the references you gave in the form along with a photo ID verification of the applicant in person at the provided address.

I was granted re-issue of passport on 15/6/2010 at PSK, Lalbagh, Bangalore by standard mode (not TATKAL). Today I got it by speed post. So, I got it in 8 days (6 working days to be precise). That’s pretty good I feel!

Bangaloreone was definitely a very convenient option. But when I went there to apply for re-issue of passport for my minor son, they said the service is not being handled at Bangaloreone any more! and they directed me to PSK.
I was in for a shock when I reached PSK to see that it is a token system (a max of 175 given every day issued before 8 am) and the security person informed me that ‘Madam-Come at 5 in the morning as there is lot of rush!! Secondly, I was given to understand that I will need to tag along my lil son to the center for some process requirement (photo, …do not know what else).
All these for convenience??? I was very happy with Bangaloreone services. Atleast, I was not required to go early to get the token and above all, a minor was not required to give in-person appearance!!!

Hi Prem,
I also applied for re-issue of the passport which required a change of address. My passport re-issue was granted with the following documents,
1. Proof of address: My organization ID card which was issued 3 years ago; copy of driving license; latest telephone bill (they isisted me also to provide old telephone bill of about 1 year which I didn’t carry, but still they cooperated as I had other address proof). Please ensure your address matches in all the documents you provide)
2. Annexure B (NOC) in original stationary (as I am a Govt employee)
3. Self attested of SSLC certificate
4. Self attested copy of first 2 pages and last two pages of old passport
5. Originals of all the above
6. See that your details match exactly with the old passport (except address).
7. Please go to their website and register yourself. Then apply online for re-issue of passport. Once you complete submission, take an online appointment.

Hope this info is useful

Hi . I applied for my passport reissue for me and my wife through the online service during the first week of this month (June), got my appointment for the 7th. I chose the passport seva kendra on the outer ring road. My appointment was at 12.00. On reaching there we did have to wait as the servers of TCS were down. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. It took us about a couple of hours with the TCS process due to the server problem. But with the government officials it was a breeze. The process with them was over in about 20 mins. We had applied under tatkal. 4 days later we had the passport in our hands. This experience for us was way different from the hassle we had 10 years ago when we applied at the passport office in MG Road.

But i failed to get an appointment date till august 18th. I need the passport in hand by august 5th maximum. I have finally booked for 30th july appointment in Hubli. These are my queries

1. WIll i get my passport despatched to my bangalore residential address?
2. Will they accept my application in Hubli?
3. Is there any other way, i can make another appointment in any of bangalore seva kendras?
4. Is B1 accepting re-issue of passport application?

1 & 2. I am not sure about this.
3. There are two seva kendra’s in Bangalore : One near lalbagh and the other near marathalli outer ring road. You may want to reach out to Regional passport office in Koramangala or even Bangalore one centers for better information.
4. I remember some one on this article saying that B1 is back in action for passports.

Thanks Mohan,

I got the questions cleared from the PSK call centre

1. I can submit the application in any of the 4 PSK in karnataka – bangalore (2), hubli and mangalore. The “place of issue” will still be bangalore.
2. Passport will be sent through registered post to the residential address written in the application.

Will clarify abt point 3 and 4 and let all know it.
This blog helped me a lot. thanks to all.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Now I know I’m not alone who had a disappointing experience in the PSK, Lalbagh. It is poorly managed. I found too many leaders there causing chaos in managing the process. I took an appointment between 9.45 to 10.30am on 15/6/2010. They don’t care if you had taken an appointment or not. I could only come out at 4PM. Once you get in it’s all the same whether u have taken appointment or not. It’s time MEA reviews the functioning of PSK and set it right. Otherwise, PSK is no different from earlier manual system.

Anil, after submitting the application, you get an option to schedule the appointment. Usually the dates are available after 2-3 days as of now. It all depends on the number of applicants!

188 Anunay June 16, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Well I also got my passport renewed in February which was very seamless.
I filled the application form online at Indian passport website, which was very easy to use and was given an appointment date and time. When I approached the regional passport ofice in Ghaziabad, there was only 1 que which had not more than 4 persons and within few minutes my turn came.
Then I got an acknowlwdgement no. in the reciept which was totally different from the 1 I got on my online application form. When I enquired that why my reference no. has changed, then the person said that there is no meaning of online application as of now and the form you have submitted is just perfect because it a system driven format and chances of errors are very less.
I got my passport within 15 days time .

I did it thru a post office though and my address issue was a great issue. Still things went really smooth and happen to get my passport without any trouble..I wd also like to tell u that passport office is one among the offices where bribe is very less to no bribe. I had to get my NOC for waiver. They were the only dept among the three depts(for a student J1 visa waiver) who acted v.strict wrt bribe. they never encouraged it. Luckily I need not pay to any dept too. But I happen to come across ppl who had to go thru all stuggles in other depts to get their NOC and they felt really happy when they came to Passport office to see things go according to rules and wrt to how much bribe is given. For passport related work, it is better to get them done thru Bangalore One Centres. They have been doing it for quite some time now and really know what they are doing. They won’t accept the form even if a tiny detail is missing (which actually saves you lot of hassle later).

My experience tells me that you better get the following organized:
1. Documents required for passport renewal are exactly same as those required if you are applying for a new one.
2. Address Proof (name in address proof should match exactly with the name in old passport if you going for renewal. unfortunately for me, most documents – like voter id etc. – had my name in initials which won’t work. So, I had to get a letter from SBI – note PSU banks only, pvt banks letters won’t work – to act as address proof.
3. 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/certificate for age proof
4. degree certificates if you want ECNR
5. All documents should be attested.
6. Two sets of all documents – better to get three. You would like to retain one.

To avoid disappointment, I would advise others to just give a visit to Bangalore one centre to enquire about documents required before you go there with actual form and documents.

Once your documents are accepted and acknowledged by Bangalore One, you don’t need to visit RPO unless RPO finds anything amiss with your application.

@Mohan and others – I firstly think that government is making an effort which is great. Being in blore you are more fortunate as the govt for some reason implements these tech savy stuff in blore first.
I remember 4 yrs ago when my sister applied for a passport, she went through an agent. God alone knows what when wrong it took her 1 yr and 100 rs of agent fees to get her passport.
2 yrs ago I applied for my passport at Bangalore One centre, trust me it was absoulutely nice and easy. I submitted all my documents at the centre next to my house on airport road, the officals checked my documents and sent it for processing, with in a month I got my passport in hand.
From there to have a passport seva kendra is really amazing, I think its wise to be prepared for a backup like Mohan said. I am suprised that toll free no’s work in India!!!
and finally with technology being so advanced in India even while I was there and more so now, I feel we really dont need to go a bank, Electricity Bill counter, Telephone Bill Counter and Railway Booking counter. But if you do feel the need for paying them in person please use the Best One Centers where you can pay everything at one go..

Reply

212 Mohan June 15, 2010 at 9:13 pm

I sure do agree to the fact that I am lucky to be in Bangalore to avail all these pilot projects. But I hate the way they kick off things without proper testing/implementation really annoying. Would anyone accept the same if it was the case with flight systems? Sorry, but I don’t like to be a scape goat for their experimentation. How can the server go down during work hours? what about the business continuity plans?

Yes, Bangalore One centers are a good option too for utility bill payments and other related information seekers.

Thanks for sharing the experience and cautioning. We are meeting the same fate at most of the government offices, Electricity bill counters, Telephone bill counters and Railway booking counters and even in Banks. You will be surprised to know that the bank employee simply says, it is time out. If queried when will it become alright, they say they does not know. The poor customer has to bear the brunt of inefficient functioning at every turn with a fond hope that things will improve.
