It has been a little over 3 months since I joined indiblogger. As the name suggests, it is a community of indian bloggers. Being part of such an enthusiast blogging community, it was suggested to meet up and socialize to know fellow bloggers. Such events are no strange to indiblogger, these meets have been conducted many a times in the past in many cities across India. The main agenda for today’s meet was to discuss about Google page rank and how this will help bloggers. For good, the venue was shifted from Coffee Day to Potluck. Mr. Birla was generous enough to sponsor the premises of his restaurant PotLuck as well as ‘pakodas’ for free! Oh yeah, tea/coffee were offered many a times through out the session!
There were hardly half a dozen of folks by scheduled time. Just like the great politicians in our country, many bloggers too live by Indian Stretched Time (IST). Blame it on ‘Google‘ search results as many of the attendees were misguided to head towards another restaurant by name Potluck near IIMB on Bannerghatta road. It took a while for them to realize the actual venue, which is located near BTM Layout and thus the session started almost 30 minutes late. Leaving it all aside, it is appreciable that many made it for this event. Though a couple of them came even after 5pm, we were still going through ‘few minutes of fame’ introduction round to know each of blogger. I would say there were about 25 people in all.
It was interesting to know bloggers from being techies working at MNC’s to entrepreneurs, unemployed consultants (seriously, couldn’t understand what it actually means), students and social media gurus! The real surprise was that, some of them even maintain & manage about 4 to 5 blogs. There were bloggers with a mix bag of varied interests like poetry, tech stuff, travel, day to day random ramblings, movie reviews and many more. All through the introduction session, funny moments were all around with PJs and fellow bloggers getting busy in pulling the legs of each other without missing any opportunity. The discussion on ‘Google Page Rank‘ started with a bit of history and its current state of importance. It was a nice discussion with so many questions being answered by fellow bloggers. The gist of the discussion is that Google does index the content even if you include ‘nofollow’, just that it doesn’t provide authority. If nofollow is excluded for links, then that link will get both authority as well as content index. Mutual link exchange among bloggers will certainly help in improving the page rank. If you find my blog useful and like it, feel free to offer some link love 😉
Got to know a bit more about the indirank and the parameters on which the rank is arrived at. If you don’t know, I have an indirank of 80 as on date. This is on a scale of 100 and higher the rank towards 100, better is the site performance. 80 and above is considered to be a good blog :), glad indiblogger recognizes me as a popular blogger! At the end, it was a kind of feedback session to make ‘indiblogger’ a better place. I had a good number of suggestions and hope the indiblogger team members have noted them all. I will look forward to see them being implemented at the earliest. More than all, got to know many bloggers from Bangalore and it is always nice to have such meets often to discuss and learn new things. Thanks to PotLuck for sponsoring the venue. I am reminding all you out there… if you get an opportunity like this, do make the best use of it. Don’t miss such a blogger meet next time!
PS: Note to self – Forget not to carry business cards whenever you head for such a social meet.

That is so kind of you. Will connect with you offline to explore what to look at. Thanks once again Raghava.
Well, I’m the guy maintaining 4 to 5 blogs 😀 And a big thnx Mohan for bringing the things together in a single post 😛 I think some of them missed the train when the Google Page Rank topic started. Well even I had to concentrate a lot because of all the history and tech words used by Raghav, he is such a genius in these things.
I was shocked seeing that the majority of the bloggers were working in MNC’s. There were harldy two students I guess, me and Mohinish.
Welcome to my blog Sriharsha! I should get inspired to maintain so many blogs like you. Yes, I did enjoy the knowledge being shared by Raghavendra Satish. What is there to feel shocked? It was normal for me :D. Nice to have meet up with you.

I find your blog very useful and informative…way to go
Thanks Nalini 🙂
Shrinidhi Hande says
Congrats. Could you find out the logic/parameters used to get indirank? I’ve indirank of 84-not sure how to improve it further
Thanks Shri. You have a great indirank for sure! Well, the parameters that decide indirank include – alexa rank, google page rank, freuqncy of blog posts, relevancy of posts wrt to your blog description as on indiblogger and many more constitute some sort of points in each of the metric. For a range of points, rank is determined for a blogger. That is how the indirank works 🙂
All the relevant stats & suggestions on your Indirank can be found on the Indiblogger site itself.Sign in to your account, go to your Dashboard, click on the ‘Blog & Indirank Stats’ link on the right side of the page, and there you go!!
Other information on how it is calculated etc is here: http://www.indiblogger.in/indirank/
That was an useful link to know it better! Thanks for sharing 🙂
That sounds wonderful! I am so waiting to get back to Bangalore and attend a meet like this.
if there are a good number of indibloggers in UK around your place, still you folks can plan to meet up. Let me know if you folks need any help in setting the agenda and the way things need to be handled.
i would love to go for something like that!
i guess i am doing ok too..mine is 81.. !!!
but ofcourse we are not being boastful here just informative isn’t it!! wink wink!!
Wow shraddha, you are going great guns! Congrats.. 😉
thought i will tell you a joke which is a true life reality!
i get better traffic via your blog( by commenting) than through google friend connect…
but seriously i am not retiring google friend connect yet ..
Hahahaha!!! Hope you said that on a serious note and not a joke! Glad my blog is helping many bloggers to get a good traffic 🙂 Hope you wont mind sharing some link love back 🙂
Sounds awesome!!!! I wish I could have attended but I guess I will have to wait to meet with Bangalore Bloggers and tweeps…..
Sure, even I look forward for more such meet ups. Thanks!

Nice Summary Mohan
It was good to meet up with so many bloggers.
My* Aha!* moment came when I realized that a lot of the serious content on the net is probably being filtered out because some .bot can’t find a link on a page that has some brilliant content. While I knew this, the impact of it sunk in pretty deep at the end of the discussion. From 30,000 feet it sounds rather Orwellian that a .bot is telling me what is relevant and what is not.
It was good meeting you.
Nice to have met you there Anand. Yes, at times even I felt things were going over my head… so I had to bring the folks over there to layman terms for everyone’s benefit!
