Politics is one of the least spoken topic for me. I always prefer to avoid or cut short my discussions on politics. However, today I was glued to TV news channels because of the curiosity created by the recent elections in Karnataka. It was good entertainment watching the updates from the counting process of the votes that took place today. I am not drawn attention towards the politicians or their supports. One thing that surely caught my attention was “Media people”. Yes, I am going to hit out on the media reporters, news anchors, political analysts etc., So have patience to read further.
As and when the trends started coming in, the so called famous news anchors were geared up fully to discuss all dirty stuff as usual. When I say Dirty talk, I really mean it. Some of the channels were at their worst kind of interpretation of those trends. To name a few of those channels included NDTV, CNN-IBN etc., They talk and debate to the core on Secularism, Unity etc., But in todays presentation they kept on saying words like “vokkaliga votes”, “lingayat votes”, “dalit votes”, “muslim votes”, etc., Give a thought for yourself. Why do you want to differentiate people who have taken part in making this democracy a sustaining process in modern world? Is this justifiable to use such words to differentiate people based on their caste/creed/religion? Whats happening? Can there be a much more shameful way of analyzing things?
These media folks are the ones who keep on talking about secularism, caste ism, abolishing un-touchability etc., At the same time, using these kind of differentiating words give politicians a bit more inroads to keep that drift exist among people. Be more responsible and abstain from such skewed mentality while presenting news to wider audience. All good things should start somewhere and let that come from you.

Hmmm…I think I miss DD news. Once a day. Say everything and done. Nowadays they keep showing the same thing every half an hour. And some of the debates are fairly schizophrenic as the anchors ask questions and reply to them too

I think media people do things in circles, First they tel all this caste stuff and then they arrange discussions about the ramifications of casteism, so they can increase their TRPs..Don’t you think so?

Absolutely… they see nothing but 4Cs – Cricket, Crime, Cinema and Controversies.

I totally agree with you ! Yes the media people do use terms such as “dalit votes”, “muslim votes”, etc. gratuitously ! But i personally prefer to watch CNN-IBN (and sometimes TIMES NOW)…they do rake issues that ideally shouldn’t, like the point you made about differentiation and all … but you just cannot escape these terms … you and i agree about the secular concept … but there are some people who really dont want to think in broader terms and as you said media and politicians widen the gap ! I wish such terms are not used in future …
There are some channels that i can’t stand for a second … like Aaj Tak and India TV…i find myself running short of negative adjectives when i talk about these channels … totally depressing stuff !
