Big TV DTH has started its operations since Aug 19th for the public. It will be competing with already well established players in the market like Dish TV, Tata Sky and Sun Direct. Similar to Sun Direct, Big TV DTH will be using the (MPEG-4) technology. This is advantageous in many ways. Compressed data files transmitted through satellite using MPEG-4 technology will result in a high definition platform, which in turn will have better quality. However, the price of the set-top boxes will be higher for the customers.
Though Big TV has announced that it is offering close to 200 channels including 11 radio channels and 32 cinema channels. Apart from this, customer has an option to opt for a subscription based Video on Demand service. one of the feature that caught my attention on Big TV advertisement include Picture-in-Picture (PIP) that would enable viewers to watch twelve TV channels at the same time on any TV set in the country! Another advantage with Big TV seem to be the availability of all sports channels. This is not the case with Sun direct or few other operatiors.
To pull more information about this Big TV, i tried accessing their site. The site is down most of the times. May be due to heavy traffic, however site up is a big challenge for any business and they should have prepared better for it. Though I was able to access the site, it is not in a good shape to view on any browser except Internet Explorer. Site design is pathetic and I can see a lot of usability issues. Certainly the site is not as user friendly as other DTH players sites. If Big TV needs to compete with the rest, they certainly need to revamp their site first!
For more information, it is better to approach their sound distribution network. There are 1 lakh retail outlets including over 240 Reliance World and 2000 Reliance Mobile Stores. What ever the case is, BIG TV DTH seem to be committed towards delivering the cheapest DTH services in India. I have no doubt that they will bring in a DTH revolution like they proved themselves in mobile service market. Good days ahead for those people who are still on conventional cable networks and planning to switch over to DTH 🙂
I have used reliance big tv service for more than 7 years . recently their licence expired and later they come up with cash back offer of 50%.
I have recharged for one year for 2500 rs . after 2 months service they have stooped service and call center closed , local realer vanished.
its the worst service i have ever seen.i have a BIG TV connection i called up customer care on 30th of november.i have asked for the replacement of a Remote for my BIG TV connection as the remote was not working. agent informed me that it would cost me 225 rs and asked me not to pay to the technition as the amount would be deducted from the big TV account directly.
after 2 days technition came home with a USED remote for replacement. when asked he told that this is 225 rs and if i want a new one that would cost me 350 rs. i immediately contacted customer care and they told me that it would cost me 225 only and they even spoke to the technition. technition said that he would bring a new one and he did not return till now.
it has become an regular act for me to contact BIGtv customer care for the replacement of the remote and they say that they have forwarded the request and necessary action would be taken.today when i called up customer care they said that technician did not come to your home as i have rejected to pay for the replacement,which i never did.
the issue is still not resolved.i stilll did not get the remote.
i think the company has got too much business that it does not care for existing customers. if the company cannot repalce a remote(with charge) then I think we all know its time to lookout for a new one now.
NEVER SEEN SUCH AN “AWESOME” SUPPORT TILL NOW.

big tv entire hire achy at their customer care centre knows me for a problem i have been projecting to them. more than a month an still no one has bothered to call me back even once. When ever i call they tell me “sorry for the inconvenience we will resolve in next 48 hrs” ths 48 hrs are endless for me.
after nearly 88 calls to help line i bet i knw more of their staff than any of their employee working at their customer care office.

The worst service i have ever seen. The toll free number always says busy and when i called the 022 3338888, after hearing all the hungama, spooke to customer care guy who even won’t respond properly. Wrote an emailo explaning the problem but auto generatedx email came but there after no response. Guys!! Dont even think of Reliance Big TV DTH.. Its sucks!!!
I have very bad experience with BIG Tv. There is no any greviance redressal machenism at all. No any Nodal officer information is given on its website. I personally request you to all Please do not go for BIG Tv.

I Too had a very bitter experieance with BIG TV… First is for installation. After taking the connection it took one week for them to install. And last week the Set top Box gone bad.. I tried to call up their custoemr care number I have to hold the line for 20 minutes to speak to a customer care officer after that I got the response that the systems are down you have to call up after 2 hours…
then next day I had raised the complaint that is on 21st and till today the same is not resolved… Yesterday night again I tried to my luck to get the customer care and after hearing their advertisement and music for 15 minutes I could able to speak to the customer care and sam answer systems are down please call after some time…. again today (25th) morning tried same answer system is down please call up after 2 hours…
If you take a big TV connection … you may have to be at home without watching TV for days together… Please think before subscribing for BIG TV.. If you want to experiance the bitterness please call up the customer care number which they advertise you will find it..
i think you are confused here. People are discussing here about Reliance Big TV DTH and not about ‘Asin and Tatasky’ 🙂
I can’t believe ADAG is really falling back on customer support. May be that it is the initial hiccups. Lets hope their service gets better.
Hi all, many of you seem to have a lot of complaints. But their recent ad featuring Asin is completely contrary to this. Have you guys tried talking to customer care of Tata Sky? If not give a try, probably that must solve many of your issues!

Reliance Big TV is a cheat no 1. Slow processing speed (tv used to hang like computer), bad customer services and customer cheating tricks (nothing new with Reliance) are the traits with which i closely link BIG TV. I took the southern package which includes star sports and other sports channel except NEO. One fine day i stop getting sports channel and on calling atleast for 5 days i finally get a response and the issue is resolved. After 3 months i come to realise that those buggers have utilised my money (top up pack) which was lying with them to provide me the services of the sport channels, which should have been free to me as offered in the scheme. It irritates to call those idiots on there helpline and listen their crap….
Big tv is really a fraud case. I took a subscription of 4990 and i came to know 2490 pack is active for me after 3 months. After many complaints, they close the complaints without any relevant information. Reliance started big TV to cheat people after reliance mobile. Nobody has responsibility towards customers in Reliance. Please don’t go for Big TV.
Hi, I am a recent Big Tv subscriber under their festival offer and I got Big tv in Rs. 1490(instead 2490)it get installed within 1 day of purchase and started working (displaying all channels)after 5hrs of installation. I am happy with its picture quality and sound which works great on my 29″ samsung LCD also some interactive services that Big tv is offering are good and useful. I will recommend big tv as it is worth for me: thumbs up!

I suscribed few weeks back after paying the dealer Rs.2190 & wa promised the channels in the list to be available for a year (which included HBO, neo sports ect..)
After a month, they cut those channels saying they are only pay channels & I need to shell out more than Rs.200 extra.
Moreover , if you want to cancel the service, those nice guys in the customer care will tell you repeatedly that “THERE IS NO SUCH OPTION” meaning they screwed you already so better bear it quietly now . HA HA.
I think the Reliance mobile fraud is reformatted and presented once again in the new avatar as Big Tv to dupe the customers all over again.
There is a saying “there is a sucker born every minute” . As much as it hurts me I have to admit that in my case it proved right.
All I can do is to warn you guys : BETTER BE CAREFUL before you select their products.
What I have done is to write to almost all the major newspapers and cc to big tv guys and also find all and any consumer forums and write about the harassment dished out to me & surely at some point enough people will know about it & once it starts hurting their sales, they will have no option to wise up.

Big TV is no where near QoS (Quality Of Service ) norms laid down by TRAI. On customer care numbers, it takes 15 to 20 minutes to talk to a customer care executive. Customer ID Nos have NOT been allocated. Customer is identified by smart card No. What happens if smart card is to be changed? Manual as laid down by TRAI is not issued showing customer details, ID No, Terms and Conditions of Service, details of nodal officer, format for customer account and bench marks. Customer account cannot be accessed on screen. This page has not been designed as yet for call centre also. Plans are not clear. Customers have not been explained that billing month is 1st to 30th. If one recharges voucher on 20th of the month, then 1st to 20th subscription is loss to customer and gain to Reliance. Some one has rightly commented…. RELIANCE IS A POOR RETAILER

Chintan, please let me know from where did u buy the STB and also the date. I am also from Bangalore. I took the STB from reliance webworld in forum on 12th of Sept. Till date, my installation is not done. everyday, I am calling their customer care. Registered a bunch of complaints. No use. 14 days without the installation.
I am from bangalore and I booked Big TV DTH last week and in less than 2 days my connection was activated. Their installation woes are coming to an end. My neighbour had order a week before me and he had to wait for almost a week to get his connection activated.
More over, I am very happy with quality of the video and audio. Well done Big TV.
Thursday i booked my connection for BIG TV. and called their customer care for installation. i was thinking it will take more then a week for installation as i have seen many customers who are complaining about delay in installation. but in my surprise on Saturday their service guy came and installed the dish within 2 hrs the whole system is running perfectly. I have no issues with signal and picture quality. sound is ok but big tv logo appears little big but i can adjust it with ratio. but i am really surprised that they attended my call within 2 days. i think they are increasing the no. of manpower any ways i am happy with their service and hope they will improve their service in other regions also..
No one has reviewed connectivity or dvr options for all DTH options (or even any DTH option). For instance if Dish TV STB has a VGA out, a computer monitor and a pair of multimedia speakers can be used.

Arjun – you should have been really lucky to get it done so quick. A friend of mine booked his connection almost ten days ago and he is yet to get it activated. Just makes me wonder why their service sucks so bad. Once the things are sorted out, I don’t hesitate to take a new Big TV connection though!
My friend subscribed for Big tv connection 3 weeks ago and it took around 6-7 days for installation, even i were also planned to go for Big tv subscription but i postponed bcoz of some issues. then last week i booked big tv stb and after calling their customer care service for installation within next 3 days their guy came for installation and now i am enjoying the MPEG 4 picture quality. in short i just wanted to say i found good improvement in big tv service may be they are adding more man power

I have purchased BIG TV subscription on 11th sep 2008, i received an email from dealer from majestic, bangalore. He came to my home around 10:30pm, i let him come even though it was alte. He promised me get the installation & activation done in two, no one turned up called up custom support gave my smart card number, received work order no with assurance of someone contact me within 3 days. No body called, upon calling CS says he will complaint and have to for 48 hours to know the outcome. BOSS i am interested in getting the connection & want to watch. CS desk litterally does not have any info or helpful to anyone. Infact one mr lingaraj has disconnected my call say ‘no response disconnectin……’ and did so. There is one more CS mr gopinath he went sayin have to wait for 48 hours, doesn’t care what i have to say. I have told him to put himself in shoes & say it. Today i have spoken to dealer, let me know what he is to say….
I have planned to wait until COB 19th, if nothing moves i will reach out to Reliance office give the set top box and get my money back. Will be happy watchin the local cable & shout at him to get the clarity of channels u regularly watch. Best part is things happen fast/real fast….. Since BIG TV ppl do not have time sense nor seriousness of 48/76 hours… these mean nothing….

I second Big Fans thought, some of you would have faced initials hiccups in regards with the installation of BIG TV, having said that one must not forget the degree of launch which BIG TV has done, a whooping 65,000 towns dont you think its a boon for people where cable TV is just a dream. Its kinda revolutinoized the way media would be consumed in INDIA. Taking about my experiece I have recently book my BIG TV, and the installation is slated for tom, Will keep you posted on what happens next, keeping my fingers crossed. Aything for the MPEG4 tech must say 😉

I have purchased my Big Tv kit on 5th sept. and installation was done on 9th, though i am happy after turning towards BIG TV DTH. i know many people are facing installation delay as i also passed through the same. but after watching big tv i am happy with that. Picture and sound quality is amazing, features are easy to understand, signal is good and the most important is value of my money. believe me once you experience the quality you will forget the delay that took in installation..

Same here. Its so pathetic to see such a big brand is doing the worst customer care service. If they cannot handle huge customers, then they should not have launched ti big. Should have first planed for the install and then launched. Dont know what the guys out there in Management do. Such a bad implementation and making all the customer go mad.
I thought they would have learnt from Rel mobile, but seems they are not ready to learn from previous mistake.
I too bought the box 10 days back and still strugging to get this install done. God knows when it will happen. Not sure if we can return the kit.

After taking the payment I was told that set top box is not ready and can be collected the very next day and installation will not
take not more than three days and they have not given me any receipt for the payment made. After many visits and phonecalls i
was given a set topbox and on the sameday I had calledup your service center and I was given a workorder
NO:0000000000908568 on date 01/09/2008 but so far even after 11 days nobody have turned up for Installation and Activation.
I had called up your customer care no and complained 2 times and i was told that the normal time for Installation and Activation
is three days. I had repeatedly called the sales person at R World Mr.Prince and your Store incharge Mr.Shaiju on phone and
even after several visit to your R World there is no one to give a solution.
So kindly arrange to refund my amount of Rs2190/- immediately of me surrendering my settop box at your R world in RS Puram
The staff at your R World are so courteous that they do not answer my Calls to their mobile nos.

Actually Reliance Big TV made mess with the installation. Lot of customers are frustrated here in hyderabad due to their poor installation response. I bought my set top box on 02-Sep and awaiting for their engineers to do the installation. Made multiple calls to call centre & local Reliance BigTV office and the response is pathetic. Standard response is ‘will do tomorrow’ and they are quoting the reason as too many workorders ??
Here is naked truth of BigTV:
It advertises like 133, 146, 155 channels…..
but actually 133 or others count are including 10audio & 32cinema halls cahnnels
So thus actually you get only 133-(32+10)=91, 146-42=102, 155-42=113 TV channels
Besides these 91, 102, 113 channels 35-40% of channels are never watchable or never seen before….
So think over it, use your idiot box (sorry mind) & invest properly!

Such a horrible experience with Reliance BIG TV DTH.
I am a highly dissatisfied customer for BIG TV, purchased a BIG TV Set Top Box on September, 1st 2008 from a dealer in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. 2nd day morning BIG TV Service Engineers came to my place & installed the entire things & activated my BIG TV Smart Card & re-charge voucher & they promised me that within couple of hours my Set Top Box will start functioning & I can watch all of my subscribed channels.
But today is 10th of September 2008 & my BIG TV has not been started yet. I have complained to their customer care number 18002009001 & registered a complaint on 05th of September 2008 & got a complain number 75319360 and I got a commitment that within 48 hours my problem would be resolved. After 48 hrs I have followed-up & getting excuses from their end. I am still calling to customer care & getting a standard answer that “shortly your problem would be resolved”, God knows how soon……..
After getting this kind of pathetic feedback I tried to go back to the dealer & he also tried his level best but he also could not do anything in my case. He has given me the contact number of Mr. Islamuddin, Sales Head – Delhi NCR, I thought he can help me out but he told me that “this is not my job to resolve all this kind of issues, my work is to sell the product only” but Sales Head has forgot that he is selling the services & my service has not been started after 10th day of his selling. Anyway, he has given me another contact person’s number Mr. Asif Ali – Cluster Head – Delhi NCR, I spoke with him & he is supposed to get back to me within half an hour but still I am waiting for his call.
God knows when it will start functioning.
oh…their website is really crappy. I absolutely din’t find it user-friendly. glad to see you agree too. I wanted to check what channels they offer in each and there’s no way to do that.
I guess they’ll improve over time. But one thing is for sure…whichever stream reliance enters into…they’ll bring the house down. 😀 DTH prices are going to crash soon….
remember….its only after reliance entered the mobile field we go FREE incoming calls…
it still hurts when I remember those days where I was getting charged for incoming calls even if it was a wrong number 🙁
